Obesity‚Äôs contribution to increased mortality remains a controversial topic. In a new study, researchers from the University of Pennsylvania estimate that obesity reduced US life expectancy at age 50 by 1.54 years for women and by 1.85 years for men. They conclude that the high prevalence of obesity in the United States contributes substantially to the poor showing of the US in international rankings of longevity.
